Crèche du Monde Staff

Deli Alexander
I was born in Castries, St. Lucia with my mom, dad, and 4 brothers. I moved to NYC just six years ago and have loved exploring the big city and trying all the new and different types of foods.

I chose to work in the early childcare field because I love children and enjoy watching them learn, grow, and express themselves in their own individual ways. While living in St. Lucia I helped care for toddlers at a day care center after school so I was very excited when Shauna gave me the opportunity to work with the children and families at the Crèche.

One of my favorite activities to do with the children is dance and movement. The children learn to express themselves through motion and music. I love being a part of a child’s discovery and watching the children grow mentally, physically, and emotionally. I finished high school in 2010 and plan to continue my education by going to college for early childhood education in 2011.

Shana Saunders
I was born in NYC. Although I am new to being in a formal early education environment, I have years of experience caring for and babysitting my younger cousins and recently two toddler siblings. Children bring me so much joy — I enjoy taking part in helping them learn and grow. My favorite activities to do with the children are play dough, water play, sticky art, and other sensory activities, as those were my favorite activities to do when I was in preschool.

In 2007 I went away to college at Coppin State University in Maryland. Last year I moved back to NYC and transferred to Mandle College to continue studying to become a nurse. I recently discovered that nursing is not the field that I would like to continue to study. I plan to continue my higher education in the early childhood field at City College.

Shawntaya Lewis
Since a young age I have always had a passion to become a teacher. At the age of 16 I started by volunteering at summer camps and churches. I graduated with an Associate’s degree in childhood education at Borough of Manhattan Community College in New York. I took my degree and started my profession as a daycare toddler teacher at Bright Horizons Family Solutions for many years. My favorite part of being a childhood educator is being able to help the toddlers express their feelings through words and play.

Shauna Howard
Raised on a small Island in the middle of the big city, Shauna Howard grew up with three brothers and two sisters. With a loving and supportive family, education and good character was highly stressed. Shauna had a natural love for children her whole life. From playing teacher with her dolls and little sister to becoming and starting the neighborhood babysitters club and caring for all the young children in her community, she became passionate about quality early childhood education. Shauna went on to study child psychology at Suny Purchase. It is there where she worked at her first childcare center, the SUNY Purchase Childcare Center. After graduation, Shauna became a nanny for various families in the New York area.

Shauna is currently enrolled at Touro College where she pursuing her Masters degree in early childhood education. In 2004 she joined Bright Horizons Family Solutions and became one of the most respected and valued lead infant/toddler and preschool teachers. During her time at BH she was awarded each year with various company recognition awards including the rising star award. It was
during these years that Shauna decided she would open her very own chain of childcare centers.

Inspired by the wonderful programs she was able to learn and grow from, Shauna is now living her dream as co-owner and Provider/Director of Crèche Du Monde. Her dream is for every child to have quality early education experiences and care. She aims to nurture the mind and foster individuality and personality in every child who walks through her door.
